Washington, Feb 20 : Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has finally opened up about his battle with drug and alcohol addiction, and revealed that he is now working towards becoming a better person.

Speaking on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the singer said that he was into excessive drug and alcohol.

"I would either go out at night or party [while on tour with the Backstreet Boys," Us magazine quoted him as saying.

Washington, Feb 6 (ANI): `Backstreet Boy' Nick Carter has revealed that his addiction to drugs and alcohol got so much out of control that it almost killed him.

Talking of his drug and alcohol problems, Carter, 29, detailed how his heart got weakened from years of abusing booze and drugs.

The blonde singer experienced chest discomfort and fatigue while touring in Europe last year, and had his heart tested by a cardiologist.

But, just the night before his results were due back, Carter "went out and just went nuts."
