Orkutters’ rally to support Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad

Narendra ModiAhmedabad, Dec. 11: Orkut, the social networking website, gained a new dimension when several of its members congregated here for the first time to showcase their political support for their favourite party and its leader.

About 200 members of Namo, an Orkut community, who knew each other only through their interaction on Orkut, met here on Sunday to hold a rally in support of their favourite Bharatiya Janata Party leader Narendra Modi.

“NAMO” community has about 6,500 registered members from all walks of life who enjoy discussing Gujarat politics and popularising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Election Commission to rule on Modi's speech today

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra ModiNew Delhi, Dec. 11: The Election Commission of India is likely to announce its ruling on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's controversial statement on the Soharabuddin Sheikh encounter killing today.

Election Commissioner Navin Chawla said in Ahmedabad on Monday that the commission's legal department is studying Modi's reply that was received on Saturday evening.

SC defers hearing of petitions against Modi to Wednesday

New Delhi, Dec. 10: The Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of petitions against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s "inflammatory" remarks on Sohrabuddin Sheikh Case to Wednwsday.

A Bench headed by Supreme court Justice Tarun Chatterjee said, “It would be the first matter to be heard on Wednesday”.

The petitions were filed by senior counsel Dushyant Dave on behalf of Rubbabuddin Sheikh, the brother of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and by Prashant Bhushan, who appeared for Javed Akhtar.

Both sought an inquiry into Modi’s justification for the Noember 2005 fake encounter in which Sohrabuddin Sheikh was eliminated.

EC meeting today to consider Modi’s remark on Sohrabuddin Sheikh

New Delhi, Dec 9:  The Election Commission (EC) is meeting today to consider its response on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s “inflammatory” remarks about the 2005 fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

The EC has also sought a reply on Congress president Sonia Gandhi's remarks about Modi being a ''merchant of death.''

The Bharatiya Janata Party had told the EC to take action against the Congress party alleging that the latter started the war of words.

Narendra Modi given time to file reply before Election Commission

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra ModiNew Delhi, Dec. 8: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was today given more time to file his reply to a Election Commission notice over his justification of the 2005 fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

The Election Commission set a new deadline of Saturday evening at the request of Modi’s lawyer.

The notice was served on Thursday and Modi was given time till 11:00 am today to file his reply.

Modi will submit his reply by 11 a. m. on a notice which was issued for violating the model code of conduct.
