According to the reports, the Harris Poll Happiness Index dipped from 35 percent of U. S. adults who said they were very happy in both 2008 and 2009 to 33 percent this year.

It was further reported that the online survey of 2,755 U. S. adults, conducted from April 12 to 19 by Harris Interactive, found 35 percent of women say they are very happy compared to 32 percent of men.

The older a person is the more chance they say they are happy. Those age 65 and older have a Happiness Index score of 44 percent, one of the highest of all demographic groups, while adults ages 18-24 have a Happiness Index score of 26 percent.

The survey revealed that U. S. adults with a household income of less than $35,000 a year have a Happiness Index has a score of 28 percent compared to 38 percent for those with a household income of $75,000 or more a year.

African-Americans, in 2008, had a Happiness Index score of 35 percent, but it rose to 41 percent last year and has stayed high at 40 percent, while Hispanics increased to 39 percent, and whites dropped from 35 percent last year to 32 percent this year. (With Inputs from Agencies)
