Islamabad, Nov 13: Pakistan Government has reportedly started monitoring the flow of water at Head Marala on a daily basis, to ascertain how and to what extent the construction of Baglihar Dam by India was affecting situation in Pakistan.

The government also said that it was “fully aware” of the situation arising out of India’s construction of the Dam.

Responding to a call-attention notice on India’s storage of Chenab River water in Baglihar Dam, Water and Power Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said the Pakistani government would seek water-for-water compensation from India for the shortage of water at Head Marala, reported the Daily Times.

Pakistan was suffering a loss of 200,000 acre-feet of water because of the construction of Baglihar Dam, he added.

Disagreeing with the NA members’ charge that the federal government was not pursuing the matter properly, he said that the issue had been taken up at the highest level with India and Islamabad’s concern conveyed.

Ashraf said India could construct dams along rivers, but it was also responsible for ensuring that the water discharge at Head Marala remained 55,000 cusecs. (ANI)
