NTPC plans to set up plant in Bangladesh

NTPCNTPC is planning to set up a power plant in Bangladesh. The company is examining the feasibility of the project and soon after the feasibility report the further action plan will be decided. The coal based power plant is expected to come by the end of this year. The capacity of the plant will be between 500-1,000 MW.

NTPC and the Bangladesh Power Development Board are going to develop the project jointly. NTPC is reported to hold a stake of 49% in this project. The Indian firm is likely to have the management control.

However, this project will undoubtedly help to improve the bilateral cooperation and relationships between the two countries.

According to sources, the company has decided to send a high level technical team to Bangladesh. They will explore the possibility of the project from the actual site. As per the plans, power generated from the plant will be evacuated to India. This will be done by using a transmission network and the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) will develop the network.
