Non Assured Penzance Ferry Funding

penzance-vesselRecently the plan for the Penzance ferry includes replacing the two ferries with one larger vessel.

However the same may doesn’t have the assurance that the government may fund the proposed new ferry link between Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  Also the Plans for a £44m terminal in Penzance to make the links between the county and the islands had been pulled in front.

Further the Department of Transport expressed the schemes awarded to the conditional approval by the previous government shall not support by the current coalition.

According to the Transport Secretary Philip Hammond the difficult decisions has to be made. People in the Isles of Scilly are heavily dependent on the ferry link for the transportation of tourists and supplies from the mainland. For this the new scheme has been proposed for a new ferry terminal at Battery Rocks in Penzance.

The Cornwall Council's Strategic Planning Committee has recommended that the same shall be made approved however the final decision shall remain due which is on the part of the secretary of state.

The coalition government also announced plans for the public spending cuts amounting £6.2bn for 2010-2011, which could also means that many schemes across the county, could be delayed or even cancelled which also includes the ferry.

According to Mr. Hammond the point is to make the difficult decisions following the spending review.
