New campaign warns over health risks

New campaign warns over health risksA new government campaign in England states that people who drink just over the recommended daily limit for alcohol face an increased risk of health problems.

The campaign says that those who drink two glasses of wine or two strong pints of beer a day have thrice the risk of developing mouth cancer compared to those who do not drink daily. The ads under the campaign, Change4Life urges people to reduce their drinking.

The campaign also includes a new online calculator that allows people to calculate how much they are drinking. A total of about two million leaflets are to distribute across England under the campaign.

NHS recommends that men should not drink more than three to four units a day and women should not drink more than two to three units every day. The new campaign urges people to reduce drinking through a way of measures such as observing alcohol-free days, avoiding drinking at home before going out, moving to lighter or non-alcoholic beverages as well as simple measures like using smaller glasses.

"It's crucial we support people to know about how drinking too much poses health risks and how they can control their drinking. It can be easy to slip into the habit of having a few extra drinks each day, especially when drinking at home. But there can be serious health risks," said Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary.
