Karnataka government is taking all possible measures and is up to date with WHO and the Centre to fight the swine flu, which has hit many countries all over the world, and killed people in Mexico and the US.

No one had as yet tested positive for swine flu in Karnataka.

Mr. R Ashok, Bangalore Urban District in-charge Minister held a meeting with top functionaries of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Bruhat Bangalore Municipal Corporation, Immigration Authorities, etc.

The meeting was also attended by State Health Secretary Madan Gopal and Health Commissioner Srinivasachar.

While talking to media persons, Mr. Ashok said that the health authorities have taken preventive steps since April 28.

Around 25 doctors are screening all passengers who arrived here by international flights between April 20 to 27 day-and-night.     

According to him, 6836 persons have been screened up till now, and no one had tested positive for the flu.  

Precautionary measures are going on to get facts from the immigration agencies of those who arrived in Bangalore ten days before April 28.

“We want to find out from these people whether they have any symptoms,” he added.

Besides all this, the Centre has supplied 10,000 Tamiflu tabs, 500 precautionary equipment, 5,000 triple layer medical masks and 500 N95 masks special masks used by medical doctors, Ashok said.

The government of Karnataka has also identified 10 government hospitals and three private hospitals including St Johns, Manipal and Columbia Asia, for treatment.

The pathological laboratory at NIMHANS has been upgraded and equipped with facilities to test the samples of blood related to Vectra borne disease, Ashok said.   

Mr. Ashok also said that the city has confirmed nine cases of chikungunya and five cases of Dengue fever since January so far.     

Instructions have been given for carrying out fogging exercise in areas of Devarajeevanahalli and Jayanagar where these cases have been reported.

 Some 20 fogging machine are being used.
