Stockholm  - The Nobel prizes for 2009 are to be announced in October, with the first prizewinner for medicine to be unveiled in Stockholm on October 5.

On October 6, the Nobel Prize for Physics will be awarded, followed by the chemistry prize on October 7, both in the Swedish capital.

The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced by the Norwegian Nobel Institute on October 9 in Oslo.

The name of the winner of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel - commonly known as the Economics Nobel - is to be released on Monday October 12.

According to tradition, the Swedish Academy makes the date of the announcement of the Nobel Prize for Literature known at a later date.(dpa)
