Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali closed

According to reports, Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali has been closed once again as a result of ash clouds produced by the eruption of Mount Raung in nearby East Java province. As per the airport's co-general manager I GustiNgurahArdita, they have closed the airport on the basis of a suggestion by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency [BMKG].

At 6.30 am, activities at Ngurah Rai were stopped and it is expected that the halt will continue until 12 noon. As per reports, dozens of domestic and international flight schedules in Bali would be interrupted by the on-off activity at the airport.

As per reports, thousands of passengers are facing problems as a result of this and have been unable to travel to a number of cities in the archipelago. The majority of them have decided to wait at the airport for revised schedules from the airlines.

From Saturday afternoon, JETSTAR was looking forward to start flights again into Denpasar Airport, however now, all Saturday flights have been cancelled along with two on Sunday.

The condition remains same and there could be more cancellations. According to Jetstar spokesman Phil Boeyen, "It's an ongoing one at the moment, unfortunately. I cancelled our family holiday (to Bali) the other week".

An update will be issued by Jetstar on Sunday flights after the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre comes up with a new assessment. All Saturday flights have been cancelled by Virgin Australia and it will come up with more details.
