Nepalese premier postpones visit to Norway and Finland

Pushpa Kamal DahalKathmandu - Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Thursday said he was postponing his tour of Norway and Finland because of political and other problems at home.

Dahal's week-long tour had been scheduled to begin on Saturday.

"With the country facing many problems, it did not seem proper to undertake a foreign visit at this juncture," Dahal told reporters in Kathmandu.

Nepalese officials said differences between the coalition partners and other parties, the energy crisis, peace and security as well as the situation arising out of the murder of a local journalist were the main reasons for the postponement.

During his trip to Norway and Finland, he had been scheduled to hold talks on energy and water resources.

Both countries have shown interest in investing in Nepal's hydro-electricity sector and are major donor partners.

New dates for the prime minister's visit to the two countries have not been finalised, officials said. (dpa)
