Negligence on rise – Sufferings for AIDS victims

AIDS Another case of negligence (previously it was Rajasthan based) causing HIV was detected. This time it was School of Tropical Medicine and the victim was a 23 year old pregnant lady.

Everything was going fine till one fine day the Doctors claimed that her blood is HIV+ve. It was misery which heralded from that time and lasted for more than ten months. It was a period of harassment, ostracism and mental torture she went through. It was such a worse scenario that even she was not allowed to breastfeed her new born baby.

This chain of events followed when she was diagnosed ELISA positive (A test for detection of AIDS). Things took a turn from that point. She was kept on a continuous dose of neviparine which taken otherwise if one is not a patient of AIDS can cause complications, causing liver damage and also skin rashes and infections.

STM authorities have snatched the reports from her and have tried to threaten as well but she is now having support of an NGO, which has sought to fight the case for her. It is a serious case of lousiness in the responsibility of Doctors and this shouldn't be taken lightly.
