Tuesday marked the fifth year anniversary of Maruti Suzuki Swift. The brand has been known to change the way people look at cars and became an instant hit in the Indian auto market.

Launched on May 25, 2005, it saw a pre-booking of 16,000 even before the price was announced and now it has touched more than a million mark.

In the year it was born and till today, the car has been able to become a wonder. During its very first year of launching, Maruti Swift won the car-of-the year award.

And not only in India but internationally too, Swift has grabbed awards. Within five years of its existence, the car has sold 4.5 lakh units in India alone.

When Swift came to market, Maruti announced that 5,000 units of the car will be produced every month, which was an ambitious target at that time. But now, more than 12,000 Swifts are made every month and still the company is thinking of scaling up the production.

Talking about this, Maruti Suzuki's Managing Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales), Mayank Pareek said that Swift has caught the imagination of young India and its performance is still unchallenged.
