Madonna’s ‘poetically inspired echoes’ in romantic letter to ex

Madonna’s ‘poetically inspired echoes’ in romantic letter to exNew York, August 6 : Madonna was said to have borrowed heavily from a 1967 Pulitzer Prize-winning poem in one of her romantic letters to her former boyfriend.

The Queen of Pop’s private notes to one-time lover Jim Albright form a part of the “Gotta Have It Collectibles” on East 57th.

In one of the letters dated December 24, 1993, the singer was alleged to have been inspired by Anne Sexton''s "Love Song," from the poet''s prize-winning "Live or Die," reports the New York Post.

In the fax, Madonna apparently wrote: "I was the girl of the love letter/ the girl full of talk of dreams and destination . . . the one with her eyes half under the covers/ with her large gun-metal blue eyes/ with the thick vein in the crook of her neck."

And Sexton''s poem read: "I was the girl of the chain letter/ the girl full of talk of coffins and keyholes . . . the one with her eyes half under her coat/ with her large gun-metal blue eyes/ with the thin vein at the bend of her neck."

Firesign Media''s Daniel Highet, who noted the similar language, said: "As a lover of great poetry, I would hate for Sexton''s work to be the recipient of such gross indignities and harlequin blonde ambition." (ANI)
