Beirut - Israeli soldiers were on full alert at midnight in areas adjacent to the Lebanese Israeli border, Lebanese army sources said.

The soldiers were firing flares over Lebanese areas, prompting the Lebanese army and United Nations Interim Forces in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) to also go on alert.

Lebanese security sources in southern Lebanon said that Israeli soldiers usually carry out such procedures when they suspect an infiltration by Lebanese militants into Israel.

The sources said there was no gunfire. (dpa)
