Indian border force claim rockets fired from Pakistan New Delhi  - Two rockets were fired into Indian territory across the border from Pakistan, India's Border Security Force (BSF) officials said Saturday.

Residents of border villages near the Attari-Wagah checkpoint in northern state of Punjab's Amritsar district informed border security officials that two rockets landed in their fields Friday night, Jagir Singh, the force's deputy inspector general, said.

"The rockets landed about 2 kilometres inside Indian territory. No damage was reported. Our troops fired into Pakistan territory in retaliation. There was no response," Singh said.

Singh said the BSF held a high-level meeting with Pakistan Rangers soon after the incident. "We lodged a strong protest," Singh said.

It was the second incident of rockets being fired into Indian territory from Pakistan in 2009. Three rockets were fired into Indian territory in early July. (dpa)
