Dr Reddy’s net profit touches Rs 167 crore

Dr-ReddysThe Hyderabad based pharmaceutical company, Dr Reddy's Laboratories has announced its fourth quarter financial results for the fiscal year 2009-10 and has managed to post a reasonable net profit and revenue.

The firm has posted a net profit of Rs 166.7 crore for the quarter that ended in 31st March, 2010. The company has posted a huge loss of Rs 977 crore for the same quarter in the preceding year. The revenue of the company had fallen to Rs 1,642.4 crore that is almost a 17% fall against last year.

This leading pharmaceutical company of India is also listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In the year 2006, it had gone for an acquisition with the German firm Betapharm.

Towards goodwill impairment for this acquisition, it had to pay Rs 1,085.6 crore in the fourth quarter last year which was the major cause of its loss. The acquisition of Betapharm was the biggest ever overseas acquisition by an Indian pharmaceutical company in that year and Dr Reddy's lab has to pay about Rs 2,250 crore for this.
