Power Outage forces cancellation of Several Flights at New York’s La Guardia

A power outage at New York's La Guardia Airport on Friday led to cancellation of several flights of Delta Air Lines and delay of several other flights. An airlines spokeswoman revealed the news after several passengers faced troubles.

The cancellations of the flights accounted for approximately 30% of Delta's scheduled flights into and out of La Guardia, which is a hub for the airline, the spokeswoman said.

The power outage occurred when contract employees hit power lines while digging at the airport. The incident led to the loss of power to portions of Terminal C around 4:30 a.m., officials for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.

Delta Airlines to cover extra income taxes paid by its employees in same-sex

On Thursday, Delta Airlines became the first major carrier, which will cover the extra income taxes its employees in same-sex relationships pay for healthcare plans. These employees pay extra taxes in states, which don't recognize gay marriages.

This practice, introduced by Delta Airlines, is called ‘grossing up’, in which same-sex couples pay the same tax amount of healthcare as paid by legally married employees. According to the airline, this decision made by the airline will take effect without any delay and taxes will be covered retroactive to January 1. At present, gay marriage is legal in 37 states. But it is not legal in Georgia, where Delta is based.
