Chevrolet is likely to hike prices

Chevrolet is likely to hike pricesAiming to meet ever increasing prices of raw materials, India subsidiary of carmaker General Motors is expected to increase price of its few models in India. If it happens, this is second time in a row in this year, that carmaker will increase prices.

Detroit based leading carmaker is concerned about increasing manufacturing cost and plans to pass on the burden to consumers.

P Balendran, Vice-President, General Motors India said in a statement that company may increase prices if raw material cost increases at the same pace. He added, "We may consider increasing prices again for the second time this year if prices of raw materials continue to increase. The increasing input cost is now the biggest concern for auto makers."

General Motors currently sells 8 car models under Chevrolet brand in India. These include Spark, Aveo UVA, Aveo, Optra, Tavera, Captiva, Cruze and the recently launched compact car Beat.

Balendran further said that they are going to review the market prices of raw material and overall manufacturing cost. Once they review, they will consider price hike in the beginning of next month. General Motors is expected to launch its successful Cadillac in India in recent future. But no date of launch has yet been declared.

Balendran informed that the company is doing good with Chevrolet brand and will see more growth in India in coming quarters.
