Congress-NCP will contest polls together in Maharashtra: Antony

New Delhi, Mar 23 : Congress leader and Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony on Monday announced that his party and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) would contest the general elections together in Maharashtra.
In a seat-sharing arrangement, the Congress will contest 26 seats while the NCP will try its luck in 22 parliamentary constituencies.
Antony, who is also the Congress in-charge in the state, said both the parties would also explore the possibility of exchange of seats between them in the state.

New York - The United States called Tuesday for strengthening the control of the manufacture and trade of chemical precursors, compounds used to refine heroin and other dangerous drugs.
US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad submitted a draft resolution to the 15-nation council, aiming at the drug problems in Afghanistan, whose widespread poppy cultivation provide the world with the largest export of heroin.
Khalilzad holds the rotating presidency of the council in June, taking over from Britain.

India's March oilmeal exports slumped 34 percent from a year earlier, falling for the fifth straight month, due to weak demand from Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and China. Ref Soyaoil yesterday traded with the negative node and settled -0.16% down at 447.6. Lusaka- Copper-rich Zambia will fall far short of its target of raising half a billion dollars in mine taxes this year because of the significant drop in international copper prices caused by the global economic downturn, it emerged Wednesday.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) commissioner Chriticles Mwansa told reporters that the commission had only managed to collect 293.1 billion kwacha (about 63 million dollars) so far this year, far short of its 415-million-dollar target.

Amman - Leading members, including the secretary general, of Jordan's largest political party, the Islamic Action Front, resigned Friday, citing "differences in viewpoints."
"The step is designed to allow the Consultative Council an opportunity to elect a new and more coherent Executive Bureau that supervises the party's march in the coming stage," Bani Ershaid, who resigned as secretary general, told the German Press Agency dpa, without going into details.

Natural Gas yesterday traded with the positive node and settled 0.48% up at 103.1 traded slightly higher Friday, approaching the technically critical $2.00 level, as bottom fishing speculators continue to hunt for the rebound. Futures have been hitting a string of fresh 10-year lows over the past two weeks, as the bearish sentiment on the heating fuel remained intact amid ongoing concerns over waning demand and elevated U.S. storage levels. Natural gas prices have plunged almost 22% since the beginning of March and are down nearly 32% since the start of 2012. The commodity has lost approximately 55% of its value over the past 12 months.
