Blind Colorado Woman sees the World after over Two Decades with New Bionic Eye
A Colorado mother, who has been blind for over 20 years, could tell how it feels to see the world after a long time. Recently, after getting a new bionic eye, the woman saw her son for the first time in many years.
Jamie Carley had tears in her eyes when she was seeing her son’s face. According to the woman, she got her new bionic eye after a surgery at the UCHealth Eye Center at the University of Colorado Hospital on November 2. Carley said she was waiting from the past few weeks to turn the implant on.
The 51-year-old mother said, “The first thing I focused on was the window, and I followed the outline around to the left, and then I got to see my son for the first time in years”. It was different and pretty amazing experience, she added. According to Carley, the moment when she saw her son after a long time brought tears in her eyes, but she tried to hide them behind the glasses.
Carley also said that even her son got emotional when he saw her with new bionic eye, but the 29-year-old man wouldn't want to admit it.
UC Health said in a statement that Carley was born with retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a group of genetic disorders that affect the retina's ability to respond to light. The mother said she never had night vision in her entire life. When Carley reached 26, she couldn't see anything at all. That time, her son was still young.
