Bajaj Auto Posts 8% Decline In Motorcycle Sales In May 2009
India's second largest two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto has registered a fall of 8 per cent in motorcycle sales during the last month (May 2009).
The Pune-based company posted sales of 165,049 units in May, as compared to 179,649 units sold during the same period of the last year (May 2008).
In exports, the company saw a decline of 3% at 58,682 units as against 60,215 units recorded in the same month a year ago.
In a declaration, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto, said, "The new Pulsar 150 and 180 have been very well received and consequently the production of the Pulsars is being progressively increased to 50,000 units per month."
"Aiding this volume build-up would be the launch of the fastest Pulsar yet in June 2009, also expected to be the fastest motorcycle made in India," Mr. Bajaj added.
The company's total vehicle sales was down by 8.02% at1,85,341 units in May compared to 2,01,511 units in the same period a year ago.
Bajaj Auto stated that its domestic motorcycle sales increased for the fourth successive month since the launch of the XCD 135 in February, 2009, and the XCD sold about
20,000 units in May 2009.
