According to a press release from Mangalore, an Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot zone was inaugurated at City Centre mall on Saturday, February 9; thanks to a tie-up between Bharati Airtel and Mohitsham group. The inauguration of Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot zone has made the City Centre mall the first mall Karnataka mall to have gone completely Wi-Fi.

As per the press release, the Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot zone at City Centre mall was inaugurated the mall's MD Harshad; in the presence of Bharati Airtel Karnataka's COO Saurabh Goel, and Mohitsham's executive chairman Sahood.

At the inauguration of the Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot zone at the City Centre mall, Goel said that Mangalore is now Wi-Fi enabled city; and added that the hotspot - which will provides users with a speed of 2 mbps - will be accessible by anybody who has a Wi-Fi enabled device.

Noting that nearly 100 retail outlets in Mangalore have already been covered under the Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot facility, Goel said that Bharati Airtel Karnataka has plans underway to reach a target of 300 outlets by next month; before extending the facility to Udupi and Manipal.

Describing the Airtel Wi-Fi hotspot as "a very secure network" which has been "created within the approved framework of TRAI guidelines and regulations," Goel said: "We (Airtel) have also taken care to make this a hassle-free login and browsing experience."
