Airport slots swapped by American and JetBlue AirwaysA deal was announced on Wednesday by JetBlue Airways Corp. and American Airlines Inc. to swap airport slots in New York and Washington.

With the deal, JetBlue gains slots in the nation's capital, while American will gain opportunities in New York.

American adding 12 pairs of landing and takeoff slots at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport are the details of the swap include. In return, American is ceding eight pairs of slots at Ronald Reagan National Airport and one at White Plains, N. Y., to JetBlue.

The airlines said in a statement that the partnership allows domestic passengers on JetBlue "simple connections" to American's international flights and equal benefits to international passengers connecting with JetBlue flights.

Passengers will be able to "effortlessly" connect from American to JetBlue on domestic routes where the two airlines don't compete, the statement further said.

In a separate statement, American said it would add seven routes to the New York market, including flights from Kennedy Airport to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Cincinnati; Indianapolis; and flights from LaGuardia Airport to Atlanta; Charlotte, N. C.; and Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. (With Inputs from Agencies)
